Restoring Stability to the Office of the District Attorney of Cache County

Updated: 4 hours ago

As a conservative, I believe stability in government is essential. Laws and leadership that constantly change undermine public trust, make long-term planning impossible, and weaken the rule of law.

Alexander Hamilton warned of exactly this danger in Federalist Paper No. 73:

“The mischiefs of that inconstancy and mutability in the laws… form the greatest blemish in the character and genius of our governments.”

James Madison echoed the same concern in Federalist Paper No. 62, explaining that frequent turnover in public councils

“…points out, in the strongest manner, the necessity of some stable institution in the government.”

The same principle applies to the leadership of the Office of the District Attorney of Cache County.

Unfortunately, our county has experienced far too much turnover in recent years:

  • 2018: Attorney A was re-elected to a four-year term, but resigned in mid-2021.

  • July 2021: Attorney B served briefly as temporary interim County Attorney.

  • August 2021: Attorney C became interim County Attorney and resigned in October 2021.

  • November 2021: Attorney D became interim County Attorney and served until resigning in December 2023.

  • January 2024: Attorney E became interim County Attorney, was elected to a two-year term in November 2024, and resigned in January 2026.

This pattern of short tenures and repeated interim appointments has created uncertainty for deputies and office staff, law enforcement, county employees, and the entire justice system in Cache County.

Stable leadership matters. County government, the Attorney’s Office, our local system of justice, and the people of Cache County deserve a leader who will serve with consistency, experience, and commitment for the long haul—not someone who comes and goes.

I respectfully offer myself as the candidate best qualified to provide exactly that kind of stable, principled leadership. With proven experience in the law and a conservative commitment to the rule of law, I am prepared to restore confidence and continuity to this vital office.

Together, we can bring the steady hand Cache County needs.

Thank you for your support.

Chris Daines

         Candidate for District Attorney
